Dr. Susan Bahl is one of only 350 fellowship trained Breast Surgeons in the United States. She completed a fellowship in breast surgery at University of Pennsylvania. For this fellowship she spent an extra year of training that was focused on breast diseases and a multidisciplinary approach to the care of breast cancer patients.
She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Bahl is a Board Certified General Surgeon. Dr. Bahl is a Fellow of the American College of Surgery and is a member of the Association of Women’s Surgeons. She is a warm and compassionate surgeon who is dedicated to improving women’s health. The Center for Breast Care strives to provide compassionate, quality care in the treatment of a full range of breast problems.The Center for Breast Care schedules prompt and timely appointments to help ease the anxiety of the patient. Dr Bahl also performs high risk screening for patient who are not affected by cancer, but are high risk. This includes developing a unique screening regimen for each patient and providing genetic counseling and testing in the appropriate situations..
Dr Bahl is also a participant in the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic. This is a multimodality clinic where our newly diagnosed breast cancer patients are seen by multiple providers at one appointment at FMH CW. Our patients are seen by a medical oncologist, a radiation oncologist, and our social workers. Together, we are able to form a uniquely tailored comprehensive treatment plan for each Breast Cancer Patient.
Surgery is the most common treatment for breast cancer. Dr. Bahl performs both breast conservation surgery, such as lumpectomy, and skin sparing mastectomy. She is also a trained expert in the technique of sentinel lymph node biopsy, which is a less invasive way to assess the lymph nodes in breast cancer. Many times, breast problems that are not cancerous will also need to be evaluated and managed surgically.
